If the therapeutic device were a train, the guide wire lays the track. However, difficult environments can make the track difficult to be put in place. The interventional microcatheter addresses this by maintaining the tracks path as a “Base of Operations” as the guide wire advances further through the anatomy. Other common functions include enhanced penetration force and increased torque control to aid in the operator’s tactile feedback, and flexibility to allow co-axial force delivery.
Interventional Microcatheters Built For Success
Effective interventional microcatheters have engineered features that impact their size or crossing profile, such as tapered tips, linear push force, torque transmission, lubricity, trackability, and whether or not they incorporate threads to help bore their way through a difficult lesion. It all depends on the user’s task and environment at hand to select which interventional microcatheter’s properties will enhance the likelihood of success.
Beneficial Interventional Microcatheter Features
Our Interventional Microcatheters Are Unique
Asahi’s market-leading innovation is a fully integrated production process that incorporates 4-core technologies into products from concept to delivery. Everything at Asahi is done in-house, from raw materials to finished products.
WIRE FORMING TECHNOLOGY
Ultra-fine braiding, formed into various profiles at the micron level, produces a flexible coil structure to optimize
an interventional microcatheter’s flexibility and tensile strength.
WIRE DRAWING TECHNOLOGY
Asahi’s unique wire drawing process allows for wires to be made with extreme precision to create extra fine wire components — such as the core of an interventional microcatheter in specific diameters and hardness specifications.
ENHANCED TORQUE & TIP DURABILITY
Proprietary technology such as the SHINKA-Shaft braiding technology enhances torque transmission, tip flexibility, and tracking — ensuring smooth transmission and steerability even in the most challenging anatomy.
COATING TECHNOLOGY
Hydrophilic coating process to apply optimal lubricity upon the interventional microcatheter
for smoother travels through the lesion.
Asahi’s Interventional Microcatheter Examples
A few great examples of our most popular interventional microcatheters are Asahi’s Caravel, Corsair Pro, and Corsair Pro XS. As shown below, our CARAVEL can be best used for tortuous anatomy and microchannels, while the CORSAIR PRO and PRO XS work well with chronic total occlusion and complex PCI procedures. These three are but a few examples from Asahi Intecc’s robust interventional microcatheter portfolio.
ASAHI CARAVEL®
Push only, non-torque, low profile microcatheter
Designed for high performance in tortuous anatomy and microchannels
ASAHI CORSAIR® PRO
All-purpose, torqueable microcatheter
Highly useful in chronic total occlusion and complex PCI procedures
